Grappa Cup Draw

It was with much excitement that the Grappa Dome hosted the draw for the preliminary and first rounds of the Grappa Cup competition on Monday.

A total of 35 teams went into the hat and some exciting match-ups were produced.

The preliminary round games will coincide with the Week 24 fixtures while the first round proper takes place in Week 25.

For those who have not taken part before, I use a complex formula of cheating and conniving to translate points totals to a final score. This year, for the first time, it gives our Serie B sides a chance to put one over on their more illustrious Serie A rivals.

Due to previous moaning and groaning by some managers, the draw was completely unseeded. Current league standings are in brackets.

PRELIMINARY ROUND (WEEK 24)

Doonhamers (5th in Serie A) v Inter Meringue (12th in Serie B)
All Stars (9th in Serie B) v FC Pietro Nato (5th in Serie B)
Dynamo Kev (16th in Serie A) v Cant Get Right (11th in Serie B)

FIRST ROUND (WEEK 25)

Villaunreal (15th in Serie A) v Wynn Some Lose Some (7th in Serie B)
Rockstars Fragmented (7th in Serie A) v Doonhamers or Inter Meringue
Juggernaut (Bottom of Serie B) v Sicilia (11th in Serie A)
Cape Crusaders (4th in Serie A) v The Bootiful Game (8th in Serie A)
Fitz_Hattrick (1st in Serie B) v All Stars or FC Pietro Nato
Biancoverdi (Bottom of Serie A) v FC Copenhacking (2nd in Serie B)
Abercromby's Medal (17th in Serie A) v We Ate All the Pies (3rd in Serie B)
Titus Bramble (10th in Serie B) v AC Putanesca (14th in Serie A)
G31 Galacticos (1st in Serie A) v Atletico Madboy (12th in Serie A)
Mope Utd (6th in Serie B) v Beat Scotty (4th in Serie B)
Old Yellow Dawgs (13th in Serie B) v Gianfranco Gorgonzola (9th in Serie A)
Team Ramrod (3rd in Serie A) v Willie's Warriors (10th in Serie A)
Lockerbie Legends (13th in Serie A) v The Damned United (14th in Serie B)
Galliano Hotshots (2nd in Serie A) v Dynamo Kev or Cant Get Right
Joe Bhoy FC (18th in Serie A) v Bairnfica (8th in Serie B)
Cantenaccio (19th in Serie A) v Oisin's Eleven (6th in Serie A)

As in previous editions, the side drawn first gets a "home" advantage of three points. In the event of a tie, captain's score will be used to decide a winner. If that is the same the next top scorer will be used and so on until a result can be achieved.

Weird weekend

Apologies are in order for not posting for a while. Not through lack of desire, simply through lack of time.

And with the fixtures coming thick and fast it was hard to keep up to date.

Suffice to say, the G31 Galacticos remain the team to beat in Serie A but they are coming under increased pressure by the Galliano Hotshots and Team Ramrod. Oisin's Eleven and the Doonhamers are also in the hunt.

In Serie B, Steve Fitzpatrick threw his rivals a lifeline by gathering just six points in this weather-damaged weekend.

Still all to play for in both divisions, and news of the Grappa Cup draw to follow soon!
